Harley Davidson Sportsters manufactured between 2006 and 2013 have one of two different ECUs which have different pin layouts of the ECU connectors.
This does not affect on-bike flashing of these models as the harness used for reading/writing (Harley Davidson Harness Type 1) is connected to the 4-pin Harley Davidson Diagnostic plug. Bench flashing of these ECUs does require a direct connection to the ECU and so Woolich Racing offers two different bench harnesses for flashing these ECUs. Care must be taken to ensure that the correct bench harness for your particular ECU is chosen.

The image below shows an ECU that is compatible with the Harley Davidson Bench Harness Type 1. These ECUs have 36-pin connectors with 2 rows of 18 pins. If your ECU looks like this then it is compatible with the Harley Davidson Bench Harness Type 1.
Sportster ECU - Compatible with Harley Davidson Bench Harness Type 1
The image below shows an ECU that is compatible with the Harley Davidson Bench Harness Type 3. These ECUs have 73-pin connectors. The connector has 2 rows of 16 pins, another 2 rows of 20 pins as well as a large single pin. If your ECU looks like this then it is compatible with the Harley Davidson Bench Harness Type 3.
