 What is Woolich Racing AutoTune? |
Woolich Racing AutoTune is a feature currently available in the Woolich Racing Tuned software. AutoTune works with data logged either from the Engine Data Screen or when using the Woolich Racing Log Box. The logged data is sorted and analyzed and changes are provided which will bring the Air Fuel Ratio (AFR) of your bike closer to the Target AFR. The AutoTune process involves the following steps. - Data Logging
- Review Logged Data in the Woolich Racing Tuned Software.
- Apply suggested changes to the Fuel Maps
- Write changes to the ECU
- Repeat from step 1 until you have reached your Target AFR and the suggested changes are small.

| Wheel Speed Adjustment and Correction |
Most modern motorcycles measure the rotation of both front and rear wheels and use this to calculate the speed that the motorcycle is travelling. The speed calculation depends on the size of the wheel and tyre and if the wheels or tyres are changed then the speed calculation may no longer be correct. In these cases it is useful to adjust the speed calculation and some motorcycle ECUs allows for this by using a correction factor as shown below for a Yamaha 2020-2023 YZF-R1.
These factors are multiplied by the rotation frequency to calculate the speed. Bigger tyres have bigger factors and therefore higher speed if rotating at the same frequency.
If your new tyres have a circumference which is 10% larger than the current ones, the factor will need to be increased by 10%. If the circumference of the new tyres are 5% smaller then the factor will need to be reduced by 5%.
If the tyres are changed on the bike then it is necessary to calculate the circumference (not the radius or diameter) of the new and old tyres. These are then used to calculate a percentage change in the circumference and this is then applied to the current correction factor(s).
The circumference of the tyre can be measured directly using a tape measure or a piece of string etc, alternatively it can be calculated if the tyre dimensions are known as shown below.
The following example shows how to calculate the tyre circumference for a YZF-R1:
YZF-R1 Stock Standard Tyres:
Front: 120/70-17: Nominal width = 120mm Aspect ratio = 70%, this means that sidewall height = 70% of nominal width = 0.7 x 120 = 84 mm Diameter of tyre inner rim = 17 inches = 431.8 mm
Tyre outside radius = 431.8/2 + 84 = 299.9 mm Tyre diameter = 431.8 + (84 x 2) = 599.8 mm
Circumference = 2 x pi x r = pi x d = 1884.3
Rear : 190/55-17: Nominal width = 190mm Aspect ration = 55%, this means that sidewall height = 55% of nominal width = 0.55 x 190 = 104.5 mm Diameter of tyre inner rim = 17 inches = 431.8 mm
Tyre outside radius = 431.8/2 + 104.5 = 320.4 mm Tyre diameter = 431.8 + (104.5 x 2) = 640.8 mm
Circumference = 2 x pi x r = pi x d = 2013.1
As circumference = pi x d, we only need to know the increase in total diameter to calculate the correct factor for different tyres. If the tyre diameter increases by 5% then the correction factor should be increased by 5% also.

| Idle Speed Adjustment for Early Model Yamaha YZF-R1/R6 |
Most modern motorcycles use an ECU (Engine Control Unit) to control all
engine parameters including the idle speed (RPM). The Woolich
Racing Tuned software
allows us modify the bin file used by the ECU and thereby modify specific
parameters, including the idle RPM on most supported motorcycle models.
Many recent models of motorcycle like the 2020-2023
Yamaha YZF-R1 series allow for the idle speed to be controlled directly by
setting a numerical value in the ‘Advanced Settings’ of the Woolich
Racing Tuned software
as shown below:
Earlier Yamaha YZF-R series models (eg. -R1, -R3, -R6) did not allow
direct control of the idle RPM but did allow modification via specific changes
made to certain maps. This article
explains how to modify the Idle RPM of these models by changing the available
maps.
The examples provided below show screenshots of the Woolich
Racing Tuned software using the 2006-2007 Yamaha YZF-R6 as an example. The idle speed of other early model YZF-R
models will use similar changes however the capabilities will vary slightly
from model to model.
In general there are three ways to control the idle speed of the
2006-2007 Yamaha YZF-R6.
The first method is to apply the ‘Gear Idle’ speed to all gears, this
idle is significantly higher than the idle speed when in neutral. 
The second method is to make adjustments to the map ‘Coolant Temperature
Idle Compensation’ which is found under the ‘Other Maps’ of the Woolich
Racing Tuned software. This map allows modification of
the idle speed based on the engine temperature as the bike is warming up. Note that when the bike is warm the values in
the right-hand column will be used.
In this map the column headers show temperature and the row headers show
the nominal engine RPM. The values in
the cells are the set RPM values divided by 100, ie. a value of 12.5 indicates
1250 RPM. This can be particularly
useful for colder climates where the engine can run ‘rough’ when trying to
start at very low temperatures.
The third method to adjust the idle RPM is to
modify the ignition timing in the idle region, ie. at low RPM and low throttle
(TPS). Making small increases to the
ignition advance (BTDC) to the lower left corner of this map will result in an
increase in idle RPM. Please note that
small changes here of only 1 or 2 degrees should be made and tested by writing
to the ECU and running the engine before making further changes are made. ie. small changes in the ignition timing do
result in significant changes in engine speed (RPM).

| Woolich Racing Tuned - Data Viewer |
The Woolich Racing Tuned software allows you to read and write to your ECU but also includes a lot of other features for reviewing logged data in order to optimise the tuning. The Data Viewer is a tool which allows you to open logged files of Engine Data and view these and perform some other useful functions. This article described how to use the Data Viewer effectively to get the most out of this software tool.
To open the tool you can click on the 'Data Viewer' button in the main window of the Woolich Racing Tuned software as shown below:
Once you have opened the Data Viewer you will need to open a previously logged file containing Engine Data. These files are saved to the micro SD card of the Log Box and can be opened using the 'Open Log File' button as shown below:
Once you have opened the Log File you should see the data displayed on screen, the example in the image below is for data logged on a 2016 MT-10:
Configuring the Data Display
In the image above we can see two graphs; the first shows AFR, TPS% and ETV and the second shows RPM, Gear and Manifold Pressure. The data displayed can be freely configured by selecting File > Configuration as shown below:
The software will then display the 'Data Log Viewer Configuration' as shown below:
This window can be used to modify the number of graphs displayed and the the parameters displayed on each graph including the colours of the different data traces. It is also possible to adjust the Y-axis for any of the data traces on the graphs and this configuration will be saved when you click on the 'OK' button.
Navigating Through the Data
The graph data can be navigated in a number of ways using either the buttons on the bottom of the Data Viewer window or the mouse wheel. The various arrow buttons on the bottom of this window allow you to jump forward or backward through the data while the '+' and '-' buttons allow you to zoom in and out.
The mouse pointer can be moved around the graphs and the data values will be displayed on screen for the specific time period where the mouse is located. If rotate the mouse wheel down you can scroll forward through the data, rotating the mouse wheel up moves backwards through the data.
Zooming in and out can also be performed by holding down the 'Ctrl' button on your keyboard while rotating the mouse wheel up or down. This allows you to quickly select and view different regions of interest and zoom in on them to review the data.
Selecting a Range of Data
A useful feature is the ability to select a specific range of logged data and this can be exported to an xml file or exported directly into AutoTune as described below. To select the start of the data range you can simply click anywhere on the graph with the left mouse button. You will see the starting time value that you selected displayed on the bottom right under 'Export Timespan'. To define the end of the time range you can hold down a 'Shift' button on the keyboard and left-click on the graph again. You will then see a second time added to the 'Export Timespan' which should now define a specific time range as shown below. If you need to adjust the start or end times you can simply repeat the process above.
Note that if you click the left mouse button on the graph the start time will be set and the end time will be erased - if you export data in this state the entire data set will be exported as there is no valid range selected.
Exporting a Range of Data to AutoTune
A new and very useful feature of the Data Viewer is the ability to select a specific range of logged data before exporting this directly to AutoTune. The AutoTune feature has always allowed users to load a Log File (File > Open Log File) however this loads the entire Log File into AutoTune and sometimes we do not necessarily want to include the whole data set. This is especially useful for large data logs where not all of the data is always useful and you might like to eg. select dyno pulls for specific gears only. By selecting a valid range of data and then selecting File > Export to AutoTune (as shown below) the data will be automatically exported to the AutoTune window where the AFR data will be displayed as shown below:
The data exported into AutoTune can then be used as normal to modify the fuel maps to achieve Target AFR values, except in this way the AutoTune only uses the data that was selected and exported from the Data Viewer.
Exporting a Range of Data to an xml file
Another useful feature is the ability to select a specific range of logged data which can be exported to an xml file for eg. analysis with another software package. After selecting a valid data range using the method described above, you simply select File > Export to XML (or press Ctrl + E) and then provide a filename and location to save the file. Only the selected time range will be exported so it is possible to export several smaller ranges from a larger data log file. These exported XML files can also be imported again by selecting File > Open and then selecting the appropriate *.xml file.
Data Viewer - Live
The Data Viewer can also be opened directly from the Engine Data window while viewing live data which offers a useful alternative to viewing only the current values. The Engine Data is updated several times per second so always shows the current measured values, while the Data Viewer shows the complete history by graphing the Engine Data against time.
Data Viewer - Live can be started from the Engine Data window by clicking on the button as shown below:
This will open the Data Viewer which is populated with live Engine Data and graphed using time as the x-axis, these plots are updated in real time allowing you to monitor changes on the bike. These graphs can be fully customised to display various parameters as described above under 'Configuring the Data Display'

| Engine Data logging settings |
The Woolich Racing Log Box products allow data to be written (logged) to an micro-SD card while the bike is being run on the street, track or dyno. The Log Box will typically start logging data whenever the ignition is started AND the device is NOT connected to the computer.
The exact settings about how the data logging works can be modified by the user in the Woolich Racing Tuned software on the computer. These settings can be viewed by connecting the Log Box to your PC and setting your Log Start Configuration which can be found under Tools > Device Configuration Page as shown below.
The Log Start Configuration is shown as in the screenshot below:
The Default "Log Start Configuration" settings are:
Time Delay (secs) = 0 - The number of seconds to delay before starting to log data after the device is powered on. This setting is useful if you would like to delay data logging to prevent log files from being created when starting the bike for short amounts of time.
Engine Running = not ticked - When this option is checked the engine must be running before data will be logged. This setting is useful to prevent logging data when the key is turned on but the engine is not running.
RPM = 0 - The RPM that the engine must go above before data logging will begin. This setting is useful to delay the start of data logging until the engine has been taken above the selected RPM.
Log data to micro-SD in Engine data Mode = not ticked. - This setting creates data logs on the Interface when in normal operation mode. It is useful if you are using the Interface on the dyno to monitor engine data and you would also like to log data to be used with the Woolich Racing AutoTune.
OBD2 Engine data = not ticked - This option is required for models that use OBD2 engine data protocol. You can see it your model requires OBD2 data by checking the Engine Data Type' in the Bin File Details. If your model shows the Engine Data type: "OBD2 - CAN", then you will need to tick this option, and save to the Log Box.
CAN Logging = not ticked - This is a troubleshooting option that you may be asked to use by the Woolich Racing Support Team. Please do not tick this option unless asked to by one of our Support Technicians.
After making changes to the the Start Log Configuration, be sure to click the Save button so that the settings are written to the Log Box.
If all options set to 0 or unticked, the Log Box will start recording data as soon as power is supplied (ie. when the key is turned).
After the Log Start Configuration has been set, you can disconnect the Log Box from your PC, and connect it to your Bike harness. You should then start the bike engine, and check the LEDs on the Log Box - the green and orange LEDs should flash quickly, and the red one should flash briefly every few seconds. This indicates the Log Box is receiving data, and recording it to the micro-SD Card.

| TuneLock Feature |
TuneLock is a free feature in the Woolich Racing Tuned software that allows the user to lock tuned maps within a bin file, to prevent other people from simply reading out their custom maps from the ECU.
The Tuner can choose their own password, or use the Automatically Generated Password option. The bin file including all maps, settings, etc is then locked to the Tuner's account and cannot be viewed or modified by anyone else unless they have the TuneLock password.
The TuneLock password is linked to the account used in the Woolich Racing Tuned software when the lock was applied. If the same user is logged in to the Woolich Racing Tuned software, they will not be asked for the TuneLock password to view or unlock the bin file.
If another user tries to open a TuneLocked bin file, they will require the password in order to view the file. If the password is not known then the bin file can not be opened or viewed.
This feature is aimed at workshops that invest a lot of of time in creating custom tune files and do not want others to be able to simply copy their work.
It is possible to request a Key Transfer for a TuneLocked ECU, but the existing tune can not be read out, and the next tuner will need to start with a new stock bin file and write the ECU again. Writing to the ECU using a new file after the key transfer will clear the previous tune, and also remove the TuneLock password.

| Map Switch on Your ECU |
When a bike is tuned the information is stored in the ECU in so-called 'Maps', these are just tables of numbers related to functions on the bike like fuel supply or ignition timing. Bikes can be tuned in different ways to achieve different goals, for example to achieve more power or to achieve better fuel efficiency and lower emissions.
Some ECUs allow you to store multiple sets of maps and switch between them while riding. One map might be tuned for riding on the road (ie. normal conditions) and another might be for the race track (ie. performance mode). These two maps are often referred to as MS0 and MS1 (MS = Map Select). Map switching while riding is made possible by installing an electrical switch on the bike and connecting this to a specific pin of the ECU. The exact pin to use depends on the specific model/year of the bike. The switching between maps is done by installing a toggle switch to ground onto a specific ECU pin (see below). One map will be selected when the pin is grounded, and another set will be selected when the pin is not grounded. You will need to test which maps are active for a particular switch position. | How will I know if you add new features to the WRT software? |
New features are added to our Woolich Racing Tuned software on a regular basis, as requests are made by tuners and individuals.
We are always striving to add new and commonly requested models and features to the WRT software and have any associated cables manufactured as quickly as possible. The more popular the request, the more priority it gets in the ongoing development of the Software. If you have your own feature request, please let us know by Open a Support Ticket. Unfortunately, we cannot give any fixed time frames as to when new features will be released. - Some features are not possible on certain models of bikes.
- Some features may not be cost effective to implement, such as when we have many large projects going on, or the target audience is very small.

| How many computers can I use my WRT account on? |
You are able to use your WRT account on a maximum of 3 computers at the same time.
Your computer count will increase if you install the WRT software onto another PC. If you upgrade your PC to a newer version of Windows, such as Win10 or Win11, this may also count as a 'new' computer by the software.
The account will be auto-locked if you attempt to use the software on more than 3 computers.
If you are no longer using the WRT Software on one of your PC's, it is recommended that you uninstall the software, to avoid your computer count increasing again, and your account being auto-locked.
Please contact us with your account details if this happens as we are able to remove computers from your account.

| Can I share my tuning maps with others? |
There are two ways to share your custom bin files with other users.
1. Woolich Racing Share File: You can share your files directly using the Woolich Racing Share File feature. This is the fastest and simplest way to share your custom file with another user. This allows a User to share bin files with other accounts, so if User A tunes a bike and wants to give the tune to User B, they can just save the bin file as a Woolich Racing Share File (.wrsf) and send it to User B. User B can then open it with their account. The normal .wrb files saved by your account are encrypted and can only be opened by your account. 
NOTE : This feature does not transfer across the bin file license key. You must already have access or purchase the required bin file key to use the file. 2. Woolich Racing MapShare: You can easily subscribe to other users' maps, and share your own maps with other people by using the Woolich Racing MapShare feature. In the Woolich Racing Tuned software you can use the "MapShare" dropdown to access and submit MapShares to our MapShare website. The 'Send MapShare' button allows you to enter details about your bike before submitting to MapShare. Once you have submitted other users can login to Woolich Racing MapShare and subscribe to your MapShare. When you have a bin file open, clicking the 'Subscribe to Mapshares' button will take you to the MapShare page for the bin file definition you have open. There, other users can subscribe to your MapShare. 
Any MapShares you have subscribed to will be automatically downloaded ready to be applied to new or existing bin files. Below you can find the full tutorial video on how to use and apply MapShares.

| Autoblipper Activation |
The Woolich Racing Autoblipper allows shifting down through the gears without using the clutch. The Autoblipper works by detecting the pressure on the shift lever and cutting the engine for a moment before increasing the RPM of the engine by opening the Electronic Throttle Valve ETV. This is commonly known as 'blipping' the engine.
Only models that have an Electronic Throttle Valve (ETV) can have an Autoblipper installed. Bikes that have a cable throttle, can not electronically blip the throttle.
The Autoblipper will only activate during riding when the following conditions are met: - Throttle Fully Closed (or nearly closed)
- Clutch Out
- RPM above minimum activation RPM

| Fast Baud Data Logging |
Fast Baud Data Logging (Fast Engine Data) can be enabled in Advanced Settings for some Suzuki Models.
This increases the speed of communications between the ECU and the computer when in Engine Data mode or when using the Log Box to log Engine Data from the ECU.
The Baud rate of communications is increased from 10,400 bps to 50,000 bps. (bits per second) (An almost 5x increase in data resolution over the factory data speed)
Note: The Suzuki Diagnostic Software will not be able to connect to the ECU if you have Fast Baud Rate enabled as it will try to connect at the default 10400 bps. If you would like to connect the SDS software remove the check in the Fast Baud Rate checkbox in Advanced Settings and flash the ECU with the changes.

| Derestricting A2-LAMS models |
The WRT software gives you access to stock bin files rather than modified/unrestricted bin files.
If you are looking for information on de-restricting A2 or LAMS bikes, we recommend that you speak to a local Tuner/Tuning Shop. They will be able to give you advice on what can, and can not be done, as well as relevant information regarding your local laws.
You can have them safely de-restrict the bike if it is possible, assuming that you are licensed to ride a full-power unrestricted model.
Not all restrictions are ECU-based, this means that de-restricting a specific bike might not be possible at all with the WRT software
In recent years all manufacturers have been slowly locking down the restricted ECU's to stop anyone de-restricting them and riding an A2/LAMS model 'unrestricted'. There has been an increasing number of accidents resulting in injury or death where the investigation has revealed that the A2/LAMS model has been de-restricted, the rider was inexperienced and therefore put in a dangerous situation.
We do not advise any owner with an A2/LAMS model bike to 'de-restrict it' as they will find they are no longer covered by insurance, and may be liable for any accident that occurs (depending on local laws). There may also be legal requirements for you to notify your local vehicle registration body of the change.
In short, de-restriction is not what our software is designed for. Woolich Racing products are intended for RACE USE on CLOSED CIRCUIT ONLY.
We do not condone an A2/LAMS rider riding a full power model. This can put an unlicensed rider in a dangerous, or unlawful position.
If you have now obtained your full-power unrestricted licence, then you should really be looking at a factory full-power bike. Another alternative is to approach the manufacturer about a full-power ECU swap. This may or may not be available as an option depending on availability and the relevant laws in your country.

Please note: these instructions are relevant to all models in the Woolich Racing Software, except for 2016+ ZX-10R, ZX10RR, Ninja H2/ H2R and 2017+ ZX14R. You will still be able to log and view data for these models, but you cannot write the ECU with any changes without an internet connection.
*2020 Update: All bin files where the model begins with 2020, or newer, will now require an internet connection for every ECU flash.
Before travelling you should perform the following. • Have a laptop that has an ACTIVE Woolich Racing Account. • Ensure that you are already logged in to the software. • Open and close the software to check for updates and check for firmware updates on your interface. • While you still have an internet connection, ensure you have clicked on the ‘Account’ drop-down menu, and selected ‘Download Bin File Definitions’ and 'Download Keys' to ensure you have all your keys available to you. can read and write to the ECU. • Turn off wi-fi on the laptop so the software won’t try and look for an internet connection.

| Can I return my tuning/maps to stock after using your products? |
The Woolich Racing Tuned software allows you to modify the original stock maps by writing your own tune data to the ECU. If you make some changes that you want to undo (eg. poor performance or engine light error) it is always possible to return the tuning, maps, settings, etc back to the stock condition. This means that all maps will be the same as they were when the bike came from the factory
At any time you can open a new stock bin file in the Woolich Racing Tuned software as follows: - Click on the 'New' button
- Select your model, year, part number and click New
- Write the bin file to your ECU to return it back to the ECU's stock tuning and maps
- Note: This will NOT remove your Woolich Racing Bin File Key
You will be able to continue tuning and writing to the ECU after writing a stock file to your ECU. This is useful if you are having an unknown issue, and wish to remove all your changes from the ECU to troubleshoot. Another useful alternative is to return a specific map back to stock, while leaving other maps unchanged, this is described below. Putting a particular map back to stock: If you just wish to put the values in any particular map back to stock values, you can also simply go to the 'Value Trim' tab on a map, select all your cells (Ctrl+A), click the 'Set' button and enter '0'. The Value Trim map shows your changes from the stock map, therefore setting all of the Value Trim cells to 0 will return it to the original values.
NOTE:
This is not to be confused with the 'Return to Stock' function found in the 'Tools' menu, which returns the ECU to 100% factory form and will remove the existing Bin File Definition Key from your ECU. This function is only to be used under the direction of the Woolich Racing Support Staff, ie. requested to use it in a Support Ticket.
Using Tools > Return to Stock removes all Woolich keys and code from the ECU including Race Tools keys. To write to the ECU again after using Return to Stock, you will need to purchase a new Bin File Key, Race Tools key, etc.
